What is Health Quality Ontario?
Health Quality Ontario is an independent agency funded by the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. HQO reports directly to Ontarians on access to publicly funded health services, health human resources in publicly funded health services, consumer and population health status, and health system outcomes.
What does HQO do?
Our role is to enhance accountability to Ontarians by independently and objectively reporting on the performance of the health system and the quality of health care to help Ontarians be better informed about their health.
Does HQO make policy changes?
No, HQO does not make policy decisions. However, HQO has the legislated mandate to make policy recommendations to government regarding what medical interventions are effective in improving health outcomes and how interventions should be funded.
Who is involved with Health Quality Ontario?
The members of HQO are appointed by government. They come from all regions of the province and bring a diverse range of health and leadership expertise. Health Quality Ontario has hired a small staff, led by a CEO, to support its work. Health Quality Ontario also works in collaboration with various agencies, organizations and professions in Ontario and across Canada to support quality improvement in healthcare.
Who is HQO accountable to?
We are accountable to the people of Ontario through the Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
