What is the Ontario Health Quality Council?
The Ontario Health Quality Council is an independent agency funded by the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The OHQC reports directly to Ontarians on access to publicly funded health services, health human resources in publicly funded health services, consumer and population health status, and health system outcomes.
What does the Council do?
Our role is to enhance accountability to Ontarians by independently and objectively reporting on the performance of the health system and the quality of health care to help Ontarians be better informed about their health.
Does the OHQC drive policy changes?
Our goal is to provide Ontarians, government and professional bodies with relevant evidence-based information to help them make better decisions about the health care system, but we are not mandated to make policy recommendations.
Who is involved with the Ontario Health Quality Council?
The members of the Council are appointed by government. They come from all regions of the province and bring a diverse range of health and leadership expertise. The Council has hired a small staff, led by a CEO, to support its work. The OHQC also works in collaboration with various agencies, organizations and professions in Ontario and across Canada to support quality improvement in healthcare.
Who is the Council accountable to?
We are accountable to the people of Ontario through the Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
