Explaining Our Measures
Percentage of residents whose language, memory, and thinking abilities have recently decreased
People with Alzheimer’s or other dementias may have difficulties with mental tasks such as memory, the ability to reason and process information. Their mental abilities tend to decrease over time as part of the disease and aging process. Although this is irreversible for most people, there are some things that might help to slow down this decline, such as certain types of activities to help keep the brain stimulated, social networks, and treatment of depression. Research shows that some medications may be helpful in managing early onset of dementia, but they are less useful in advanced dementia.
This indicator measures residents whose language, memory, and thinking abilities have declined over the previous three months.
